How a Fitness Kickboxing Class is Structured
Warm-Up
We begin each workout with a quick warm-up to get the blood flowing and wake up your muscles for the work to come. A proper warm up helps decrease the likelihood of injuries. You’ll start the warm up with some light cardio exercises like jumping jacks and running in place to get the blood flowing. Then we’ll go into some join mobility work (not stretching). From there, we typically throw in some great cardiovascular and strength building exercises like Bear Crawls, Burpees, Push-Ups, Squats, and Lunges. These exercise not only continue to warm up the body, but also provide a great workout!
Pad Work
This is the Power section of the workout! You get to hit the pads and bags hard and furious with fun, energetic drills designed to make you sweaty and tired. We use kicking shields, focus mitts, and Thai Pads for this part of the workout. Partner Drills Partner drills allow you to use your techniques with a partner is a safe and fun way. This type of training improves your technique and accuracy. Plus, working with a partner is fun, challenging, and motivating. We spend the majority of our kickboxing class doing these types of drills.
Partner Drills
Working with a partner is fun, motivating, and really improves your technique. We spend most of our time doing partner drills, because they are the most fun, and most challenging!
Core and Cool Down
At the end of the workout, it’s time to focus on the abs…or as coach Keith calls them “Abomidables”. This usually involves either a short ab/core circuit training workout, stations, or partner ab drills.
When the core workout is finished, it’s time to stretch it all out. Stretching at the end of the workout helps relieve soreness, and helps avoid injury.
