In the past, I’ve used this type of training to great success when getting combat sports athletes prepared for competition in MMA, Muay Thai, and Jiu Jitsu events. It worked well for our needs, because it provided a way to increase the fighter’s metabolic rate. This helped tremendously in efforts for them to “make weight” for their bouts. It also provided incredible cardiovascular and endurance benefits, making them stronger and more durable fighters.
This type of fitness training is also the best approach men in their 40s and 50s. Long grinding workouts (what I call “mirror training”) causes your body to create large amounts of cortisol. Cortisol is the natural sworn enemy of testosterone, which at any age you don’t want to lose. Short, intense workouts that jack your metabolism up with compound movements is the solution to this problem.
I focused extensively in my recent efforts to reduce body fat and get back in shape using these methods. You don’t need to be an MMA fighter or athlete of any kind to benefit from this type of training. When done properly, you’ll start seeing benefits in just a few workouts!
