We love to make excuses for ourselves for not going to the gym, sticking to a diet, getting plenty of rest, or driving past the donut shop without stopping. They hold you to a higher version of yourself, and give you the motivation to succeed at whatever goals you have set up.
What An Accountability Coach Does
When you first hire an accountability coach they will meet with you to discuss your goals. During this initial meeting you and your coach will talk about where you currently are with your weight loss goals and where you want to be. They will then give you some ideas on how to best achieve the end result you desire. During the following weeks you and your coach will meet again to assess how well you are progressing, holding you accountable to follow up on your goals. They will also help you celebrate your victories along the way.

Accountability Coaches give you real feedback. As I said above, it’s difficult to hold yourself accountable. That’s because you have set patterns and habits that are ingrained into your personality. Asking friends and family members to be your accountability partner is not optimal either, because they have a vested interest in your happiness. If they see you struggling, they are inclined to tell you what they think you want to hear. If you hire someone to coach you their interest is 100% on your success. They are less likely to sugar coat their advice, and won’t be afraid to “hold your feet to the fire”.
Accountability Coaches help you follow through better. In my Accountability BFF program I require all of my clients to fill out a form that details their goals for the week. When you write down your goals (whether on paper or digitally) you are more likely to follow through. Also, when you have someone to answer to for not completing those tasks you have laid out your less likely to find an excuse for why you can’t.
Accountability Coaches help you set realistic goals. Sometimes the end result we want and the timeframe in which we want it are too far out of balance. Wanting to lose 100 pounds is a fantastic goal, and your heart will love you for it! However, trying to do so in 6 weeks is far beyond the realm of “doable”. An accountability coach will help you find a way to have meaningful success in a timely fashion.
Accountability Coaches help you see your life from a different perspective. There is an old adage that states, “sometimes it takes a second set of eyes”. This statement holds true with your weight loss and fitness goals. We often struggle with a busy schedule and responsibilities that seem to always get in the way of us putting time aside for ourselves and our health. A coach can help you see where you can find and make time for your own self care while still fulfilling your responsibilities at home and work.
