Taught by certified Muay Thai Instructor Keith Miller, these classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights inside the yoga studio at the 502 Wellness center near downtown La Grange, Kentucky. It also incorporates techniques and tactics borrowed from other arts such as Savate (French Kickboxing), Western Boxing, Filipino Martial Arts, and Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee’s art). It will also feature strength and conditioning, making this class a well rounded self defense and competition fighting system.
If you’re new to the world of combat sports or martial arts training, you may be asking; What is Muay Thai? Known as the “Art of Eight Limbs”, Muay Thai is the national martial arts system of Thailand. Utilizing powerful punches, kicks, knees, and elbow strikes makes Muay Thai Kickboxing the striker’s choice for mixed martial arts competition.
Our Muay Thai classes at 502 Hemp are perfect for the beginner to martial arts training. This class focuses on mental and physical conditioning through awesome workout methods. Basic, foot work, punch, kick, and knee applications make this program fun and informative for both men and women of all skill levels. This is a safe class that will increase the student’s level of fitness with Boxing & Traditional Muay Thai techniques utilizing Focus Mitts, Kicking Shields, and Safety Gear.
You may be wondering what happens during a typical Muay Thai class. Class always begins with a full warm up exercises like skipping rope, jumping jacks, push ups, and abs. After we have warmed up the body, and broken a little sweat it’s time to switch gears to get in some pad and bag work. From there a typical class will transition over to partner work, this is where we practice the techniques learned during class with a live partner in a safe, fun, and challenging way.
