I wanted to take a few minutes today to write about why my approach is a good fit for most people struggling to lose weight and have more energy, but also show you why health coaching works.
The Truth About Weight Loss Programs
The health and fitness industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. Yes, that’s Billion…with a “B”, and they don’t want you to know what I’m about to tell you.
The success of a program has very little to do with the information being taught, and everything to do with the anticipation of where clients can fall off track. That’s why “over-the-counter fitness” programs don’t work. You are essentially purchasing a book, video, or digital download with zero accountability, and no way for you to be coached through a moment of self sabotage. Sure, you may get some phenomenal results at first, but making sure you sustain those results requires a more systematic approach to making changes to your long term lifestyle habits.
What is Self-Sabotage
Self Sabotage is when you are doing great at making changes to your life and creating new healthy habits, but revert back to an old behavior. This old behavior used to help you cope with life, but now it’s no longer helping you grow into what you desire. The funny thing is that you aren’t “really” off track when this happens. You are very much On Track with the part of you that hasn’t yet revised your coping mechanism. This is why it’s so hard to start back up on a diet or workout program after you take a little time off. It simply hasn’t become a part of who you are, and what you are.
Self sabotage has many forms. It can be as simple as not following through on easy to follow tasks like planning your meals ahead of time. Or, it might manifest as rational excuses to miss sessions, or even continuously putting others ahead of yourself.
The bottom line is that you Will fall of track When some part of you is still attached to your old way of being.
How to Stay On Track
Like I mentioned above, here at Up For It Coaching I make sure that all of our program have 3 Key Elements in place to set up the conditions for inevitable success. The Right System needs to be in place to make sure that all the right steps are in the correct places to make sure you continue to move forward in a way that creates new healthy habits to replace the old ones that are no longer serving your best interest.
Then the Right Support needs to be in place so that you should derail, we know how to get back on course and make the proper corrections along the way. This is not Stopping and Restarting…this is Re-tooling on the fly!
Finally, without the Right Accountability in place you are destined to veer off course. It is very difficult to hold yourself accountable. Your friends and family only want what makes you happy, so if they see you struggling it’s hard for them to hold you accountable. They have a vested interest in your happiness. What you really need is an outside accountability partner to hold you to the standard of the version of yourself you desire to achieve. Whether that is the friendly shoulder or the drill sergeant is up to you. Everyone is different and needs a different approach.
